The Estate
Dove il tempo ha lasciato il segno
Echoes of history.
Il Castagno sits in a landscape steeped in centuries of history, where every stone, tree, and
hillside tells a story. The main building, dating back approximately 400 years was thought to
once be a hunting lodge and outhouse connected to the nearby Castello di Montauto, a
castle with a thousand-year legacy.
The Montauto family, one of the most prominent in the region, once welcomed Saint Francis of Assisi to the castle during his pilgrimages, a connection that infuses the estate with a sense of spiritual and historical depth.

Restoration
Conservare la memoria dei luoghi
An act of responsibility rather than transformation.
The architecture of il Castagno embodies the principle that beauty and responsibility can be one and the same.
We restored our stone buildings using traditional techniques and local materials, preserving their authenticity while bringing them gently into the present. Stone, reclaimed wood, and lime-based plasters ensure harmony with the landscape and minimize environmental impact.
There is no formal symmetry or monumental gesture, only a practical coherence that has endured over time. This architectural legacy is defined not by authorship, but by continuity of use.

Philosophy
Valori radicati
Everything is considered, nothing is imposed.
Il Castagno exists to be lived with ease and intention. It is a place where time opens space for family, friends, and the quiet pleasures of being together, surrounded by land that offers privacy, comfort, and calm.
Life here follows the natural flow of the day, light, weather, appetite, conversation, without instruction or display. Our philosophy is not stated; it is lived.
